Chrisalyne Hagood
Chrisalyne Hagood holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and is in her 11th year of teaching at Weatherford Public Schools. She currently serves as the Middle School Band Director. In that time, her bands have received the Outstanding Achievement Award, the highest award given to Oklahoma Middle School Bands, numerous times. She continually teaches her students how to learn and grow as musicians and young adults. She is a very active member of Mu Phi Epsilon, professional music fraternity, Southwestern Oklahoma Band Directors Association, Shortgrass Honor Bands, the Oklahoma Music Educators Association, and the National Association for Music Education. Ms. Hagood has been the Camp Office Manager for the SWOSU Music Camps for 10 years. She began her involvement with SWOSU Music Camps in 2002 as a student camper. She quickly valued the learning experiences of camp and wanted to share with others. Ms. Hagood enjoys cooking, watching documentaries, and spending time with her cats, Kitty and Renaldo. Ms. Hagood is currently the co-Director of SWOSU Music Academy.

Kathleen Jung
Kathleen Jung is a 2008 graduate of Okeene High School. She attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University graduating in 2013 with a Bachelor's in Instrumental Music Education with a minor in Child Developmental Psychology. and her Masters in Music Education from SWOSU in 2016. While at SWOSU, she joined Mu Phi Epsilon serving in multiple officer roles and was awarded the Sterling Achievement Award in 2013. Also during her time at SWOSU, she was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and The Pride of the Great Southwest serving as drum major in 2012. In 2013, she began her teaching career in Enid followed by Elk City where she is currently in her 10th year. During her time at Elk City she began the Fairview Elementary Honor Choir and Elk City Elementary Honor Choir. She was awarded Fairview Teacher of the Year in 2017, Elk City Elementary Teacher of the year in 2022, and Elk City Public Schools District Teacher of the Year in 2022. She has served on multiple district and building committees and helps orchestrate district level Music in Our Schools Month activities each year. Ms. Jung currently teachings PreK, 2nd, and 3rd grade music at Elk City Elementary and is an adjunct music professor at SWOSU. She serves as the President of the Oklahoma Alumni Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, Director of Operations with HOBY Oklahoma, Financial Manager for SWOSU Music Camps, and co-Director of SWOSU Music Academy.

Tiffany Ragan
Tiffany Ragan is in her seventh year of teaching at Elk City Intermediate School, where she is the General Music Teacher and Honor Choir Director. Ragan holds a Bachelor of Instrumental Music Education degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Under her direction, the Elk City Intermediate Honor Choir has been recognized for outstanding performance through its selection to appear at the 2022 and 2025 OkMEA Winter Conference and numerous community events. Ragan consistently has choral students selected for the OkMEA All-State Children’s Chorus. In addition to being an avid classroom teacher, Ragan maintains a private flute studio in western Oklahoma. Her flute students have been selected for numerous honor bands, including OSSBDA All-State.
Ragan is an active member of the Oklahoma Music Educators Association, National Flute Association, Oklahoma Flute Society, the National Association of Music Education, and Mu Phi Epsilon. She serves as the Treasurer for the Oklahoma Alumni Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, Secretary for the Oklahoma Flute Society, and was most recently appointed Equipment Manager for the National Flute Association. Ragan has been awarded numerous music, fraternity, and school honors. She was awarded six Convention Internships with the National Flute Association, was a Mu Phi Epsilon Music Delegate for the 2020 and 2023 Conventions, and performed for the National Flute Association Convention as a member of the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Flute Choir. She has appeared as a Guest Clinician and Conductor at the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Flute Day. In 2022, Ragan was named Teacher of the Year at Elk City Intermediate and was named a finalist for the District Teacher of the Year. Most recently, the Oklahoma Music Educators Association recognized Tiffany Ragan as the 2023 Outstanding Young Music Educator.

Elizabeth Edge
Elizabeth Edge graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Music Education and Vocal Performance. She is currently teaching Elementary and Vocal Music at Cordell Public Schools in Cordell, Oklahoma. As a freshman in college, Elizabeth competed in the Joyce Adams Curtis Aria Competition and placed 1st, later performing with the SWOSU Symphony Orchestra in 2017. Also in 2017, Elizabeth placed 3rd in Oklahoma NATS and in 2018, she competed again, placing 1st in her division. Throughout her college career, Elizabeth performed as a major role in the following operas: Straus’s “Die Fledermaus,” Puccini’s “Suor Angelica,” and Handel’s “Alcina.” Elizabeth currently resides in Cordell with her husband, Aaron, and her son, Liam, and is currently working to establish a new path to general and vocal music at Cordell Public Schools.
Dr. Shelley Martinson
An active performer, Shelley Martinson has appeared as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician throughout the United States. Martinson is Associate Professor of Music at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where she instructs courses in applied flute, flute studio, music history, and chamber music. A passionate educator, Martinson previously served on the faculty of the Skidmore Summer Flute Institute and the Florida State University Summer Music Program. She acted as Visiting Instructor of Flute and Chamber Music at Skidmore College prior to her appointment at SWOSU. Martinson serves on the board of the Oklahoma Flute Society and is former chair of the National Flute Association's Career and Artistic Development Committee.
Martinson has performed with the Sinfonia Gulf Coast, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, and Muncie Symphony, among others, and appeared as a concerto soloist with the Lake George Chamber Orchestra, the Skidmore College Orchestra, SWOSU Symphony Orchestra, and the University of Akron Symphony Orchestra. Recent engagements include performances, master classes, and presentations at conferences sponsored by the NFA, Florida Flute Association, Flute Society of Kentucky, College Music Society, International Trombone Association, and Oklahoma Flute Society, as well as events at Florida State University, University of Oklahoma, Kansas State University, Oklahoma Baptist University, University of Akron, Northeaster Oklahoma State University, Cameron University, Oklahoma State University, and Malone University, among others.
An advocate of both music of the past and present, Martinson has premiered more than a dozen new works featuring the flute and also studies and performs on Baroque flute. Martinson has served as president of the Flute New Music Consortium since its establishment in 2013.
Recipient of the NFA's 2014 Graduate Research Competition, Martinson continues to actively study historical performance, musical aesthetics, and East Asian flute traditions. She earned her Doctorate of Music in flute performance with a certificate in World Music from Florida State University. She holds additional degrees in flute performance (MM), music history (MM), and music (BA) from the University of Akron and Skidmore College. Former teachers include Eva Amsler, Mihoko Watanabe, George Pope, Jan Vinci, and Wendy Matthews.
Lesley Friend
Dramatic Soprano, Lesley Anne Friend, has been honored as a Metropolitan Opera National Council Awards Semi-Finalist, and by the Opera Birmingham Vocal Competition, Marguerite McCammon Vocal Competition, Connecticut Concert Opera, the Orpheus Competition, and the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition. Her roles include the title roles in Ariadne auf Naxos and Tosca, Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes, Giorgetta in Il Tabarro, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Fiordiligi in Così fan Tutte, Alma in Hoiby’s Summer & Smoke, Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Desdemona in Otello, Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw, Helmwige in Die Walküre, Female Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia, Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda, the title role in Suor Angelica, and Magda Sorel in The Consul. Lesley has worked with Virginia Opera, Sarasota Opera, Opera Memphis, Baltimore Concert Opera, and Opera on the Avalon.
Lesley has long been passionate about new works and less-performed repertoire. She has performed in regional and world premieres of works by numerous composers, including American composers Zachery Redler and Stephen Schwartz: singing Magnanimous in Windows and Myra Foster in Seance on a Wet Afternoon, respectively. Her orchestral work includes Varese’s Offrandes, the music of Harry Partch, and Ginastera’s Cantata para América Mágica in celebration of the composer’s 100th birthday at Indiana University’s Latin American Music Center. During Pride Month 2023, she was honored to perform a recital of music by LGBTQ+ English & American composers.
Ms. Friend sang her first Verdi Requiem with Boston’s Chorus Pro Musica and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Hartt School of Music Choirs and Orchestra and the New Haven Chorale. She also performed Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer 1915 and Stravinsky’s Pulcinella with the Indiana University Orchestra. Lesley received her B.M. cum laude in Vocal Performance from Montclair State University, her M.M. in Opera from The Boston Conservatory, and an Artist Diploma from the University of Memphis. Currently, she is a doctoral candidate in the final stage of completing her Doctor of Music in Vocal Performance and Literature, with a minor in Music History at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Her doctoral research involves making musical theatre part of a traditional music curriculum, and she is a student of Carol Vaness.
Dr. Greg Rife
Saxophonist Greg Rife is an emerging concert saxophonist and educator who has established a diverse performing and teaching career. Greg currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music at Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he teaches saxophone and music theory. Prior to his appointment at SWOSU, Greg previously served on the faculty of Lewis University as a music theory instructor, was the saxophone instructor in the Lincoln-Way Community High School district, and was the Assistant Band Director at Monmouth College. Greg’s students have earned national recognition including performances at the 2020 Music for All National Chamber Music Festival, 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and 2019 Tournament of Roses Parade as well as consistent placement in ILMEA honor bands and superior ratings at solo and ensemble festivals.
Greg is an active performer both as a soloist and as the tenor saxophonist of the award winning Colere Quartet. Recent performances include appearances as a concerto soloist with the University of Illinois Wind Symphony and Lockport Township High School Symphonic Band, world premier performances at various North American Saxophone Alliance National Conferences, and a series of performance and educational programs as part of the 2020 Fischoff Gold Medal Tour.
Greg has had competitive success including winning the prestigious Gold Medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, First Prize at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition, semi-finalist appearances at NASA solo and quartet competitions, State Winner of the MTNA Young Artist Solo Competition, and as a finalist appearance in the University of Iowa Concerto Competition. Greg has also performed a number of recitals, concerts, and masterclasses for audiences of all ages.
Greg holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in saxophone performance from the University of Iowa. During the 2019-2020 school year he served as the teaching assistant to world-renowned saxophonist and pedagogue, Dr. Kenneth Tse. Greg also earned both a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in saxophone performance degrees from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He was awarded the Division Achievement Award in Music Education and twice awarded the prestigious A.A Harding Award for outstanding performance, achievement, and service to the University of Illinois Bands. His primary teachers include Dr. Kenneth Tse, Debra Richtmeyer, and Dr. J. Michael Weiss-Holmes.
Michelle Jaluvka
Michelle Jaluvka is a dynamic music educator, performer, and scholar based in Oklahoma. She is currently Instructor of Clarinet at Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she teaches applied clarinet and music history. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Jaluvka served as Adjunct Instructor of Clarinet at Oklahoma Baptist University and the University of Central Oklahoma. She is pursuing her doctoral degree in Clarinet at the University of Oklahoma. Ms. Jaluvka’s performances are distinguished by their focus on contemporary music from living and underrepresented composers. She has performed at conferences such as the American Single Reed Summit, the Music by Women Festival, the SHE Festival of Women in Music, and the North American Saxophone Alliance. Her scholarly work merges music with women and gender studies and has been showcased at the American Musicological Society’s Southwest Chapter Meeting and the Darkwater Women in Music Festival. Ms. Jaluvka earned dual Master of Music degrees in Clarinet and Musicology from OU in 2023 along with a graduate certificate in Women and Gender Studies. She graduated summa cum laude from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Clarine
Dr. Daniel Farris
Daniel serves as director of choral studies and vocal area coordinator, teaching applied voice, applied conducting, and the choral music education sequence to performance, education, business, and music therapy majors. He also teaches the Southwestern summer choral camp for OMEA/OCDA preparation and other workshops during the academic year that work to further enrich and improve the audition skills needed for successful placement in the state-level honor choirs.
Raised in the strong choral tradition of west Texas music education, Daniel completed a Bachelor of Music with all-level teacher certification at Angelo State University and taught at the junior high and high school levels in San Angelo, TX, and Arlington, TX, respectively. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting with related fields of music theory and musicology from the University of North Texas.
Daniel is a regional and international scholar with focused interests in choral conducting pedagogy, vocal pedagogy, score study/editing, and modern language diction, having presented at international and regional conferences on these topics. In his tenure at Southwestern, he has conducted workshops, taught classes as a visiting professor, and presented at various conferences and universities in the United States, central Europe, and southeast Asia. Daniel’s choirs have performed as honor choirs at conferences in Italy, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Daniel is an active clinician, adjudicator, and conductor. In the summer of 2022, the Southwestern Chamber Choir won the Chamber Ensemble and Best Italian Language Performance categories at the Leonardo da Vinci International Choral Festival in Florence, Italy.
Aaron Edge
Aaron Edge is the Director of Bands at Cordell Public Schools, where he has led the music program to numerous successes since his appointment in 2020. A 2019 graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University with dual degrees in Music Education and Music Performance, Edge quickly made his mark as an educator, fostering significant growth in both the number and musical ability of his students. Under his leadership, the Cordell Band has earned multiple superior ratings at concert, marching, and jazz competitions, along with several top awards at regional marching contests. In 2023 and 2024, they were named State Runner-Up at the OBA Jazz Contest, and in their debut appearance at the OBA State Marching Band Contest, they received both Runner-Up and the High Music Award. The band has also earned the OSSAA Sweepstakes Award in 2023 and 2024 and is working toward a third win in 2025.
Beyond his students’ collective achievements, Edge has mentored many individuals who have gone on to perform in honor bands such as the Shortgrass Honor Band, SWOBDA All-Region honor band, OSSBDA All-State, and OkMEA All-State, with many earning superior ratings at the State Solo & Ensemble Contest. He has taken the Cordell Blue Devil Band on performance tours to Denver, Colorado, and Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee, broadening their horizons and enriching their musical experiences. Edge is particularly proud of the lasting relationships he has built with his students, many of whom have gone on to pursue careers in music education, and he continues to stay in touch with past students as they become future colleagues.
Aaron Edge has also been selected as the 2025 Young Music Educator through the Oklahoma Music Educators Association. He resides in Cordell with his wife, Elizabeth, their son, Liam, their two dogs, Pharoah and Buckley, and eagerly anticipates the arrival of their second child in April 2025.
Meet the 2024-2025 Junior Faculty
Betty Cain
Betty Cain is a Graduate Student and Assistant for the Department of Music at SWOSU studying a Master’s of Music Therapy Equivalency. Prior to her graduate studies, Betty taught Middle School Band and Orchestra for two years in Oklahoma City Public Schools after completing her Undergraduate degree in Music Education at SWOSU (2020). During the 2022-2023 school year, she studied Clarinet Performance at Kansas State University and assisted with teaching a Ukulele lab for an Elementary Education course in Music Education. Betty has been teaching Piano, Guitar, and Ukulele lessons with the SWOSU Music Academy for one year and is excited to meet new and returning students this Fall!

Hi! My name is Mallory Jackson and I am a Music Education and Flute Performance major! I graduated from Deer Creek High School and then immediately began my journey the following fall semester at SWOSU. I am the principal flute player of the SWOSU Symphony Orchestra, SWOSU Wind Symphony, and I am one of the three Drum Majors of the Pride of the Great Southwest! Hello, my name is Jefferson Hannon and I am originally from Newcastle, Oklahoma. This is my sophomore year as a music therapy major with percussion as my primary instrument. I plan to graduate with a bachelor in music therapy and a master degree in music therapy. Once I graduate I plan to work as a music therapist in school to expand my career and experience. Eventually I plan to open a nonprofit for children to have access to various necessary interventions that will improve their daily lives. In college I have participated in various ensembles including Percussion ensemble, Symphonic Band, and marching band. I am excited to teach a variety of lessons that improve the individual's percussion abilities, overall musicality and understanding of music and what it can do for students outside of just playing.

My name is Dylan Burrows. I play the trumpet and I am in my third year of a Bachelors Degree of Music Education. I have participated in many ensembles in my time here at SWOSU. Including Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Brass Ensemble and Jazz Band.

Londin Hine
Londin Hine is a percussionist and bassist currently pursuing bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Percussion Performance. He acts as a Drum Major in the Pride of the Great Southwest, has been the Principal Double Bassist in the SWOSU Symphony Orchestra, plays bass in SWOSU’s Jazz Orchestra, and plays in many other ensembles on both percussion and bass. He also plays with a number of groups outside of SWOSU including Stardust, Those Cats from Out West, and Strings on Fire. He recently married the love of his life, Kelli, who is in her first year teaching band and choir at Burns Flat-Dill City. Together they have a sweet puppy named Duke.
Londin Hine is a percussionist and bassist currently pursuing bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Percussion Performance. Grace Oliver
Grace Oliver is a junior Instrumental Music Education and Flute Performance major at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She is studying under Dr. Shelley Martinson who is the flute professor and department chair for the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Department of Music. In her 10 years of playing the flute, she has preformed with the Oklahoma Youth Winds, Southwestern Oklahoma State University's Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Flute Choir, The "Pride of the Great Southwest" marching band, "Wild Dawgs" pep band, and has been apart a number of different chamber groups. During her free time , she enjoys cooking, baking, and spending time with her pet bunny. She also enjoys traveling and has been to France, England ,and Scotland as well as many other US states including Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Alabama, New Mexico, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

Madeline Mitchell
Madeline Mitchell is a Senior Music Therapy student in SWOSU’s music program. She is very involved with all different areas of voice such as Southwestern Singers, Opera, Musicals and many more! Madeline is very passionate about voice and has been singing in church choirs, school jazz and varsity choirs and has been taking lessons for over 6 years now! She loves working with others and helping to allow students to reach the goals that they set for themselves.

Kris Lawrence is a Graduate Student and Graduate Assistant at SWOSU studying a Master’s of
Music Viola Performance. Kris graduated with his Undergraduate degree in Music Education at
SWOSU in the Spring of 24 with the primary instrument of Violin. Kris used the last two years of
his Undergrad to explore the other three stringed instruments (Viola, Cello and Double Bass) to
prepare for teaching and fell in love with the Viola. Kris is the principal Violist in the SWOSU
Symphony Orchestra. Kris started teaching violin lessons with the SWOSU Music Academy this
summer and is excited to meet new and returning students this Fall!
