About SWOSU Music Academy
The SWOSU Department of Music now offers musicians and future musicians the opportunity to learn, grow, and discover through the SWOSU Music Academy. Students of all ages, interests, and skill levels are welcome to participate in 10-week fall and spring terms on SWOSU's Weatherford campus. Private lessons, group classes, and ensembles are led by SWOSU Music Alumni, Junior Faculty (SWOSU Music Majors) and SWOSU Faculty and flexible private lesson packages are available.
We're pleased to offer scholarships for the fall and spring terms. Scholarships are intended to offset tuition expenses for students who qualify for free/reduced lunch. Scholarships for Spring 2025 are due January 6th and will be announced the week of January 13th.

Spring 2025 CLASSGROUP CLASSES AND ENSEMBLES
MUSICAL PRESCHOOL PUPS Tuesdays, 5:15-5:45pm Cost: $90 Berrong Music Hall Room 137 Preschool (ages 3-4)- Limit 10 students. Join Cordell Elementary Music Teacher, Elizabeth Edge, for an exploratory music class for preschool students. Students will sing, play, and make music while learning music basics and have positive social peer interactions. RHYTHM ROVERS Mondays, 5:00-5:30pm Cost: $90 Berrong Music Hall Room 118 Kindergarten and 1st Grade- Limit 14 students Join Elk City Music Teacher, Tiffany Ragan, for an exploratory music class for Kindergarten and 1st grade age students. Students will sing, play, read, and make music through exploring, listening, playing, and dancing. MUSIC AND ART Wednesdays, 5:00-5:30pm Cost: $100 Berrong Music Hall Room 132 1st Grade through 3rd Grade Join SWOSU Music Adjunct and Elk City Elementary Music Teacher, Kathleen Jung, in a musical art class! Explore musical concepts from composers, symphonic stories, dynamics, and more with an artistic twist! ALLEGRO YOUTH CHOIR Mondays, 6:00-6:50pm Cost: $155 Berrong Music Hall Room 120 2nd Grade through 6th Grade Allegro Youth Choir gives singers the opportunity to develop individual musical talents and team work skills within a fun and supportive environment. Led by award winning Elk City Intermediate General Music and Honor Choir Teacher, Mrs. Tiffany Ragan. No previous singing experience is required for this ensemble. MUSIC LITERACY Mondays, 4:00-4:50pm Cost: $125 Berrong Music Hall Room 118 7th Grade through 12th Grade Join SWOSU Professor and Southwestern Singers Director, Dr. Daniel Farris, in a weekly music literacy class. Music Literacy class will serve to provide students with a basis in solfège and solmization of canons, flashcard exercises, and vocal/instrumental repertoire, resulting in growth of one’s music literacy. All materials will be open source (free), and a possible final April presentation at a 4 PM Wednesday departmental will consist of selections sung on solfège. This class will be the beginning of young solmisators and solmisatrices. JAZZ COMBO Thursdays, 6:00-7:00pm Cost: $155 Fine Arts Building Room 102 8th Grade through 12th Grade Join award winning Cordell Band Director, Aaron Edge, in a weekly jazz combo! No previous jazz experience is necessary. Come learn more about the jazz genre and play along side other aspiring young jazzers! MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP Mondays, 5:30-6:30pm Cost: $155 Berrong Music Hall Room 101 5th Grade through 12th Grade Join SWOSU Music Faculty, Lesley Friend, in a weekly musical theatre workshop! Learn songs, choreography, monologues, acting, and more to enhance your skills for future musical productions. A final showcase will be given for friends and family to attend at the end of the term recital and following the last class of the term. FLUTE CHOIR (Deadline to enroll extended to February 17th) Five 90 minute rehearsals with a final showcase performance on April 13th! Mondays 5:30-7:00pm- February 24th, March 3rd, March 24th, April 7th Sunday 12:00-1:30pm- April 13 Cost: $125 Berrong Music Hall Room 137 9th Grade through 12th Grade (8th graders welcome with director recommendation) Join SWOSU Professor and Music Department Chair, Dr. Shelley Martinson in a flute choir! Play in a flute ensemble with other flautists from around the state! CLARINET CHOIR (Deadline to enroll extended to February 17th) Five 90 minute rehearsals with a final showcase performance on April 13th! Wednesdays 5:00-6:30pm- February 26thMarch 12th, March 26th, April 9th Sunday 11:30-1:00pm- April 13 Cost: $125 Berrong Music Hall Room 101 Open to all clarinet players from school age to adult! All that is needed is a minimum of one year of clarinet playing experience. Join SWOSU Music Faculty, Michelle Jaluvka in a clarinet choir! Play in a clarinet ensemble with other clarinetists from around the state! SAXOPHONE CHOIR (Deadline to enroll extended to February 17th) Five 90 minute rehearsals with a final showcase performance on April 13th! Tuesdays 5:00-6:30pm- February 25th, March 11th, March 25th, April 1st, April 8th Cost: $125 Berrong Music Hall Room 132 Open to all saxophone players from school age to adult! All that is needed is a minimum of one year of saxophone playing experience. Join SWOSU Music Faculty, Dr. Greg Rife in a saxophone choir! Play in a saxophone ensemble with other saxophonists from around the state! **All locations are still subject to change. Please check back when the academy term is closer to starting as well as your emails from academy faculty.** INSTRUMENTAL AND VOICE LESSONS PRIVATE LESSONS- taught by SWOSU Junior Faculty Flexible scheduling, 30 or 60 minute options, Open to all ages Cost: See lesson package info below Learn a new instrument or advance your musical skills through one on one lessons with caring and qualified instructors. Private lessons are one of the best ways to achieve musical goals. Flexible private lesson packages allow students and families to choose the option most appropriate for them! All lessons within a package must be used by the end of the term. Virtuoso Package (Recommended for Intermediate and Advanced Students): $280 60 minute lesson weekly (10 total) Apprentice Package (Recommended for Beginning and Elementary Age Students): $150 30 minute lessons weekly (10 total) OR bi-weekly 60 minute lessons OR 60 minute lessons for 5 weeks Starter Package: $90 30 minute bi-weekly lesson for 10 weeks (5 total) or weekly lessons for 5 weeks (5 total) ADAPTIVE LESSONS- Taught by SWOSU Junior Faculty Flexible scheduling, Ten 30 minute lessons, Open to all ages Cost: $150 Targeted lessons to address musical, as well as developmental, social, behavioral, and communication skills. Best suited for neurodivergent students. These lessons would be led by music therapy major junior faculty under the supervision of state licensed/board certified music therapists. COLLEGE AUDITION PREP LESSON- taught by SWOSU Music Faculty Flexible scheduling, 10 half hour lessons, open to 11th and 12th grade students Cost: $300 Lesson opportunity for juniors and seniors in high school considering pursing music in college and preparing for their college music auditions. College Audition Prep lessons have limited spots available, are subject to individual professor schedule and availability, and students may be subject to audition and meet the professor before final placement in lesson is made. |
